ELGIN MODEL R 5500 PORTABLE 8 TRACK PLAYER. Properly cleaned, tested, lubricated and new belt installed. This is the iconic portable from about 1971-72 the player features large speakers and a hinged cabinet that separates’ for full, bold stereo sound. The battery compartment is good and the AC cord is included. There is a switch on the back that is for AC or battery operation; however the label for that is missing so seller is just indicating what that switch is for. Also has a jack for 12 volt DC operation. The tape speed is correct and runs at the correct speed (3-3/4 ips). This is a good sounding player that will take you back in time! Like people used to say, “You want good? You go 8 track!” There are many enthusiasts groups on face book who embellish the 8 track format.
